Ear we go again...

Here are a few things I have been working on recently. I think I may have actually posted about these vases before, but it has been a while. Here are the results. Well, the green ware anyway. I used Gimp to make them all fancy black and white to get a better sense of the form...and because it is just fun.
Anyway, I was having some troubles with adding the ears. They never really turned out how I was picturing them.

I think #'s 1, 3, 5 and 6 are ok. Number 5 probably works the best; it stays close to the vase body and doesn't feel quite so added on. They still have a long way to go. Any thoughts?

And here is a lidded jar that was going to be a teapot body, but it just didn't feel right as a teapot. It actually doesn't feel right for anything I am making right now. It is far too polished. It looks more like something I was doing back in college. Strange.

On a different note, I have been reading through some old issues of Pottery Making Illustrated at school lately. I had a subscription to Ceramics Monthly a while back, but that mostly just frustrated me. It always showed a bunch of artists, usually the same age or younger than me, presenting professional photographs, doing grand things in the field of ceramics. Frustrating for someone who is working hard and getting nowhere. PMI, though, is more like the working man's pottery magazine. The articles are great and helpful; not just reviews and such. And the pictures, while still professional, are more like snapshots into a real potter's day, not set ups for a magazine shoot.
Not trying to knock CM or anything, just finding some good stuff in PMI right now, more down to earth stuff. And on that note, it is off to bed. Tschus.
